It is ALMOST time for the greatest fireworks show in Kansas. I promise you there is no place better to spend July 4th than in Wamego, KS AKA BOOMTOWN!! Wamego, KS, and the 4th of July have become synonymous with each other and the thousands of visitors who travel for hours to take part in the parade, car show, carnival, and of course the fireworks! As usual, this weekend's schedule is packed and the Pyro Crew is getting ready to go.
Kicking off the festivities with the City Carnival on June 30th. This carnival runs through July 4th and is located in Wamego's City Park! The carnival will have something for everyone. If you are looking to have your adrenaline spike by getting in as many rides as you can or challenge your skills at the various games, you will find it here at the carnival. If you are looking for me, no surprise, I will be taste-testing the food. We all know our strengths and taste testing is my superpower!
Now, on July 4th, things kick off EARLY! Stop by the Ball Diamonds to check out the Antique Tractor Show or the Walter P. Chrysler Car Show in the Park. Next up you can enjoy cake and ice cream at the Historical Museum also in Wamego City Park.
From 11-5 pm on July 4th, make sure you stop by for Pork Sandwich and Pie. This local tradition is served at the First United Methodist Church. Guests can choose from brats, hotdogs, pork sandwiches, and of course, PIE!
Head back to the Wamego Park Shelter for the Watermelon Feed hosted by Mount Calvary Lutheran Church from 1 pm-3 pm.
The Carnival opens back up at 3 pm in the Wamego City Park and runs until 10 pm.
Head over to Lincoln Ave and get your spot ready to enjoy the Independence Day Parade. This year's theme is, "Celebrate Freedom."
Now, the biggest decision. Do you head back over to the carnival or do you get your spot ready for the show? There will be people that will begin staking out their "spots" several hours before the fireworks start in Wamego, KS! I remember the first year we went over and it was unbelievable! There were groups of people strategically parking next to each other.
They set up their spaces with food and drinks in a mix between tailgating and mobile BBQs, it was so fun to see everyone getting so excited for the same thing! The fireworks start at 10 pm and go on until 10:35 pm. You will soon realize why they call Wamego, KS, BOOMTOWN!! Make sure you have a radio so you can tune in to B104.7.
Now, don't be in a rush to leave after the show. The traffic backs up pretty quickly and you will hear people say ALL the ways they get home faster, but the best thing to do is just spend a little bit more quality time with your families and friends! After all, that is what life is all about and this will give you a perfect excuse to do just that!
Follow the website for more information along with the full schedule and an interactive map. You can also follow the Pyro Crew on their Facebook page for regular updates and behind the scene fun!
I hope you all have a fun and safe holiday weekend!
