Sometimes you need to find yourself in a beautiful place, with great wine, fabulous people, and delicious food! If you are looking for a place like this, find your way to The Inn at Mattei's Tavern in Los Olivos, CA stat. I found The Inn at Mattei's Tavern through a food blogger I have followed for years, Gaby Dalkin. In November, Gaby hosted an event, Friendsgiving at Mattei's with another food blogger, Alex Snodgrass from the Defined Dish. I knew tickets would go quickly, so I was equally surprised and excited when I realized I acted fast enough.

After I secured the tickets I did what any girl would do and called my sister to ask if she wanted to join me in California in a couple of weeks. Thankfully she was up for it so we booked our flights and anxiously waited for our spur-of-the-moment girl's trip! We flew into the Santa Barbara airport, grabbed an Uber, and enjoyed the drive to Mattei's. The 45-minute drive offered spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the breathtaking Santa Ynez Mountains.

As we pulled up to Mattei's we both instantly could see the amount of thought and care that has gone into reawakening the original inn, which was built in 1896 by Felix Mattei and his wife, Lucy. The ranch-style inn was so welcoming. We had not been in the area since we were young, but the staff made us feel like they were welcoming us home. Entering the main building we enjoyed the mix of rustic and luxurious decor. Check-in was a breeze and within minutes we were on a quick tour of the inn and heading to our room.

As soon as we walked into our room we debated whether we would even leave our room, it was decorated to perfection and so cozy with our private patio with a fire pit. After we relaxed for a bit sipping our welcome cocktail and enjoying our complimentary mixed plate of locally produced olives and nuts we were ready to explore more of the inn and the town of Los Olivos!

When I realized how easy it is to walk to downtown Los Olivos, CA, I was even more excited! Being able to easily walk to so many places from the inn was very appealing to me. I think when you are traveling with others, walkability allows each person on your trip to have the vacation they want. If one of us wanted to explore while the other spent time at Mattei's, we could have totally done that!

Our first stop in town was to grab a quick bite for lunch at the popular local spot, Panino for sandwiches and it did not disappoint. After lunch, we walked around town for a bit and enjoyed some California sunshine before heading back to the inn.

The downtown of Los Olivos is a fun mix of local clothing stores, restaurants, general stores, tasting rooms, and even home decor. Many of the stores are locally owned and operated which only adds to the undeniable charm of the area. We also noticed that many items are locally produced and made by people from the Saint Ynez Valley. Some of our favorite spots were the General Store, Olive Hill Farm, and Global Eye Shop and Studio.

Instantly you can see the amount of thought and care that has gone into reawakening The Inn at Mattei's Tavern. The Inn was originally built in 1896 by Felix Mattei and his wife, Lucy.

As we headed back to the hotel for dinner, we debated which of the three restaurants we wanted to choose from on the property. In the end, we decided on The Tavern. We were seated in the ranch-style restaurant that's comfortable elegance lets you know that you are in for something special. We ordered a round of Golden Spur's from the bar and although we wanted to order everything on the menu, we decided on the crispy cauliflower, and we both got the scallops and beets for our main course. Yes, we knew we should have tried two different entrees, but the scallops and beets sounded amazing to us both so, we went with it!

Being raised by foodies, my sister and I appreciate great food and our meal was exquisite. Every single bite was perfection in both preparation and taste. Much of what you enjoy at Mattei's is either produced on the property or locally sourced, this makes a huge difference and you can taste it.

The next morning we relaxed in our room and after a lazy morning, we finally started our day with what else, but one of the best breakfasts you will find. This time we did order two different breakfasts to try more of the menu and a blue corn pancake for the table. A Pancake for the table is a must no matter where we are! Now, it has been a few months since we had our first breakfast at Mattei's, and let me tell you, I am still dreaming about it. I also need to purchase some blue corn flour, because I am not sure I can live without Blue Corn Pancakes on the regular!

Our event was in The Barn and it was spectacular, with rounds of appetizers and drinks served right outside it was the perfect area to mix and mingle while we were waiting for the event to start. Since our trip was short, we did not make it to the spa, but we have decided we need to go back and the spa will be on our list of to-do's! The gym was fabulous with a view overlooking the heated pool and The Shed, it was a great space for either a solo workout or to join one of their group classes.

There is truly so much to enjoy at Mattei's, our visit was just what both of us needed and we look forward to going back so that we can enjoy more of The Inn at Mattei's Tavern and the Los Olivos area!
