Ice cream will always be one of my go-to's for dessert, especially homemade ice cream, so when I heard about an ice cream truck in Wamego, KS I knew I had to try it. School Creek Scoops in St. George, KS is turning out some truly must-have small-batch ice cream hand-made by the owners.
I had heard about School Creek Scoops a while ago, but I was not able to make it to the truck until the night when the truck was at Manhattan Running Company in Manhattan, KS. You know me, I had to try a variety of flavors because this is the hard-hitting research I am into doing, and let me tell you, it was some of the best ice cream I have ever had! Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream is one of my favorites, and as you can see from the photo below, it was so good, it did NOT make it home!
The other flavors I tried, in addition to the Mint Chocolate Chip were Vanilla, Peach Crisp, Strawberry Lemonade, and Cookies and Cream. Each ice cream had the perfect texture, rich and creamy with a perfect amount of mix-in's. I will gladly order every single one of these flavors again. Vanilla ice cream is one of my benchmarks for great ice cream. My husband always gives me a hard time when I say I am craving a good Vanilla Ice Cream, so when I say this is a great vanilla ice cream, I mean it!
When I got home, I jumped online to learn more about School Creek Scoops. After reading their about me page, I fell in love with their ice cream a little more. I learned that each ice cream is churned in 1.5-gallon micro-batches and the recipe is based off of grandma's recipe from over 50 years ago. If you have been following me for any amount of time you know I am all about family recipes, especially grandma's recipes.
I can't wait to try more of School Creek Scoops flavors next time they are out and about! I am also really excited to know that you can order their handmade ice cream on their website. As soon as I eyed the Peppermint ice cream on their website, I knew that would be a must-have this holiday season!
