There are just those places that are a MUST when you move to a town and then if you ever leave, they are those special places that you constantly crave. Rock-A-Belly Deli in Manhattan, KS, or locally known as RAB, is one of those places. I can still remember when my sister first came to school here at Kansas State University and my first trip to RAB. It was was of the coolest places I had ever been, there was something so comforting about the atmosphere, even now. It just feels like home!
Originally opened in 1987, Rob-A-Belly Deli is a staple in Aggieville and for all Manhattanites and Wildcats! Their menu is filled with classic RAB sandwiches like the Belly Buster which is ham, turkey, swiss and American cheese topped with lettuce, tomatoes, and whatever else you want to add! The Belly Buster is one of our family favorites. Several of my friends are partial to the Spicy. The Spicy is topped with Genoa salami, sliced pepperoni, provolone cheese, lettuce, and tomato. My other go-to is the Ham and Cheese, just a classic sandwich on sourdough that is one of my comfort foods!
No matter what sandwich we pick there is one thing that you will ALWAYS find on our table, the Chili Con Queso or "CCQ with" and that "with" is adding Jalapenos on the chips! The CCQ at Rock A Belly Deli is a classic American cheese with chili and tomatoes or the good ole' Rotel! I think this was made at every get-together growing up so the nostalgia this brings to me makes this simple appetizer the best!
One thing I will tell you is definitely don't sleep on the soups at Rock A Belly Deli! My mom's favorite is the Italian Wedding soup. This classic is a hearty bowl of goodness that is completely filling! Their Chili is seasonal but it is a great option on those cold Kansas days.
If you happen to be looking for a spot to grab drinks, Rock A Belly is a great option! Their variety of Summer beers, Sangria, Nancy's, and fun cocktails is perfect for date night or an evening with friends! It is also a popular spot to hang out during the local festivities and parades held in Aggieville!
It is important to note that Rock A Belly is not a big place, in truth, it is pretty small and in peak times you will be amazed how many people are in there! I promise you it is worth the wait! When the weather is nice try to enjoy your meal on their patio, it is completely shaded and is one of the best patios in Manhattan, KS!
