Is there anything better than farm fresh produce?? I don't think so. Farm fresh produce has amazing flavors, vibrant colors and is so much better for all of us! I can remember as a little girl my family having an ENORMOUS garden at our house. We were always working in it, just like my Grandma had done so many years before. While I would LOVE to have my own garden, the truth is, it takes more time than I have.
We are very lucky in our area to have several local farms that provide our community with farm to table produce of all kinds, one of those farms is Piccalilli Farm. Piccalilli Farms shares their wonderful story of, "What Brought Them Here" on their website. The Tallgrass Prairie and Kansas have a funny way of calling people to make this place their home. In short, very short, they started working at the farm in 2013 and have continually provided to our communities in new ways every year.
Piccalilli Farms has been and continues to be a staple at the Manhattan Farmer's Market! During market season individuals can purchase their amazing fresh produce, scratch-made pastries, and broiler chickens every Weds evening and Sat. morning at the Farmers Market located in Downtown Manhattan. During the winter months when the Farmer's market moves inside, their donuts and pastries are a hot item. If you can't find their booth, just look for the line of people waiting and hoping they don't run out.
In 2020 as with the rest of the world, Piccalilli Farms was faced with a challenge to adapt, and adapt they did! Last year, Piccalilli Farms added Piccalilli Farm 2 Porch as a way for their goods and produce to reach consumers. As the Farm 2 Porch service has grown, they have added additional products for consumers. You can now add Autrey Pork, Oatie Beef, Wooly Bee Farm, and more! All you do is go to the Piccalilli Farms website every Tuesday morning at 9 am through Wednesday at 5 pm and place your order. As with everything at Piccalilli, it's best to get there right at 9 am. Quantities are limited and items do sell out fast.
Piccalilli Farms also work in partnership with local restaurants in the community by hosting pop-up events and special menus. You will find their special menu collaborations with Little Apple Brewing Company and pop-ups at Public Hall from time to time and the food is always epic! Their collaborations with Little Apple Brewing Company sell out fast, so come early and order fast. As usual, the plates are normally limited so if you have been reading this entire blog you know what I am going to say. Get there EARLY! To find out more information about when and where their upcoming collaborations will be, check out their Facebook page or their Instagram!
I hope you give Piccalilli Farms a try whether it be at the Manhattan Farmer's Market, through Farm 2 Porch, or at a local event, but just trust me and find them. Everything will be more than worth it!
