Art definitely has a special place in the hearts of many Manhattanites! Our amazing community supports projects such as the Murals in Manhattan, KS, the Beech Museum of Art, McCain Performance Center, the Manhattan Arts Center and so many more. The best part is that in Manhattan, KS we will be adding a new museum that will be located in downtown Manhattan, KS.
Led by Robert and Tracey DeBruyn, owners of The Master Teacher in Manhattan, this museum was inspired by a trip they took to Paris, France. While in France they found inspiration from the Paris’ l’Atelier des Lumieres museum which uses art as projection in a warehouse environment.
The proposed new museum will be 50,000-square-foot divided into three stories and known as the Museum of Art and Light. The museum would range from both interactive and immersive exhibits to art that will feature both local and international artists.
The original location was going to be SE of the Flint Hills Discovery Center, but the project has been relocated to Downtown Manhattan, KS. The new location will be located in the area on the East side of Third Street, North Houston, and the Westside of Fourth Street. For those familiar with the area, local businesses like Pool House, Chapter 5 Yoga, and other businesses in that building would remain. The City of Manhattan has shared a map of the area that can be viewed by clicking here.
