If you have been following along with me and my blog then you know I am a HUGE fan of mural art! I love how it completely changes a space and brings a community to life in a way that only art can. While I have my list of murals in Manhattan, KS, and beginning my journey of all the murals in Salina, KS I was super excited when A Mural Movement Clay Center reached out and asked if I would put together a reel on Instagram of their murals.
Since I had been meaning to go to Clay Center and view their murals for the longest time this was the invite I needed to just make it happen. Isn't that so much of life, our "to-go/to-do" list is long and we just need that little push! A Mural Movement Clay Center started in 2020, and with over 20 hand-painted murals already up I can not wait to see how they continue to grow.
As you view the murals you can tell that the community support for the mural movement is strong! As we went to each of the murals we stopped into various businesses like Gibsons, Tasty Pasty, and the 15 24 Brew House and everyone we talked to was so happy we were there to view the murals! Since we made the trip on a Saturday we were also fortunate to attend the Clay Center Farmer's Market!
As we toured you could tell that we were not alone on our mural walk! There were two other families with their phones out walking and enjoying a day in Clay Center! A Mural Movement is Clay Center has made it so easy to find the murals, I loved that you can access an interactive Google map on your phone. The map easily takes you from the mural in Longford, KS to the murals in Clay Center, KS, and then the final two on our trip in Green, KS. The interactive map made the murals incredibly easy to find and most were walkable in the downtown area!
For those who follow muralists, you can also scan a QR code that you will find at each of the murals and learn who the artist is, where they are from, the title of the mural, who sponsored it, and the significance of the mural! If you decide you want to learn more about the murals prior, you can always go to the interactive Google map and as you "click" on the various mural locations you can also learn the additional details there!
To keep up with new murals or to follow along, you can find more information on A Mural Movement Clay Center Facebook Page or you can also follow them on Instagram! They also have a YouTube channel where you can watch a timelapse video of the "Welcome to Clay Center" mural and the "Bucolic America" mural at the CO-OP
I can't wait to share about our entire day, but for now, this post is all about the murals! So without further ado, check them out below, but even better, plan a day trip to where HWY 15 and HWY 24 meet and enjoy a day in Clay Center, KS!
