Every Wednesday and Saturday you will find all the fresh fruits, vegetables, sweets, BBQ, various baked goods, and more at the Manhattan Farmer's Market! The Manhattan Farmer's Market opened in 1979 and is one of the oldest farmer's markets in the State of Kansas!
My first introduction to Manhattan's Farmer's Market was shortly after I moved to Manhattan. I lived and worked in Northwest Manhattan. At that time the Farmer's Market was held in the parking area on the Northside of Cico Park. As I would drive home from campus or work I would see the tents up on Weds. evenings and would always think to myself that I needed to stop!
It wasn't until I was at work one day and one of my coworkers gave me a cookie from a vendor she called, "The Cookie Lady!" As you might have guessed, "The Cookie Lady" was a hotspot at the Manhattan Farmer's Market! As soon as her tent was up, the people would flock to her> She would have every cookie you could think of, her cookies were HUGE and fresh-baked!!! Some of you might be shaking your head, but yes, it is apparent that I can be motivated by cookies!! LOL
Over the years the Manhattan Farmer's Market grew and eventually they needed a new space. You can now find the Summer Farmer's Market at 3rd and Leavenworth in the Dillard’s west parking lot on Weds. from 4 pm-7 pm and Saturdays from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. from (May-Sept.).
I love seeing how much the farmer's market has grown over the years and given an opportunity to so many artisans, farmers, crafters, bakers, and more! Many local businesses have started as Vendors at the Farmer's Market and have grown into thriving local businesses!
The Manhattan Farmer's Market makes it easy to plan your route with the Vendor list on their website. Depending on what you may need or "want" at the market, you can easily find the vendors attending! Most of the Vendors are also really good at keeping their followers updated via their Facebook pages as to what they will be bringing to the market which allows you to get an idea of what might be on your meal plan for the week!
The Best Part, The Manhattan Farmer's Market isn't just in the Summer! During the winter, the Winter Market runs through the months of November through March and is held at Potroff Hall in Cico Park. The Winter Market is held on Saturdays and begins at 9 a.m. until 1 pm.
I look forward to seeing you all at the market, as you might have guessed, I am all about sweets! I promise I do throw a few veggies and other goodies in my bag. I am also known to enjoy some of the food vendors serving up some of the best street tacos, tamales, BBQ, in town!
