Front of The Fork in the Road and the parking area right up front.

Some of the best things in life can be found at The Fork in the Road. This roadside stand was started by a local farming family and once you arrive you will realize, the name is a perfect fit. Located outside of Riley, KS this farm stand sits literally right off the fork in the road on HWY 24.

The stand originally started in an old pickup truck that would be loaded daily with produce, flowers, and baked goods. It has now expanded to a free-standing building. This concept allows us all to participate even more in the farm-to-table movement. Locals and those from surrounding communities enjoy a quick trip to fill their grocery lists and then some. Trust me, you will leave with extras.

The Fork in the Road allows you to not only get fresh produce and seeds for planting, but it also has an amazing refrigerator/freezer section. I like most people like to keep a few freezer meals in my deep freeze for those nights that I either, don't want to cook or I need something fast. Every so often I think, I will prep my own, but let's be real. That isn't going to happen! Thankfully this freezer section allows you to grab one of Valerie's homemade specialties. Stock up on her Taco Cornbread Casserole, Tator Tot Casserole, Bierock's/Runza's, Soups, etc. They sell various cuts of meats (beef and pork) which are raised and butchered locally. For those with a sweet tooth, the freezer is filled with frozen cookie doughs, various pies, apple crisps, and more. In the refrigerator section, you will find additional fresh produce, herbs, potato salad, and various dips. Friday could be my favorite day, it is cinnamon roll day!

Fresh food in the Flint Hills

It's so good you are going to LOVE it!

Now the fun part, shopping for all these goodies! This business operates on the honor system and allows you several ways to pay. You can pay via Venmo, check, cash, over the phone, and pretty much any other way it is convenient for you. As you select your items you can either keep track on a notepad or you can set your items off to the side and total up you're when you are done shopping! They have pens, paper, and bags waiting for you. For some of us shoppers, they also have a much-needed calculator! As Spring is beginning to arrive I look forward to watching additional plants and produce arrive, but most of all, I look forward to turning at the fork in the road.
