The Oktoberfest fun continues in Junction City, KS this weekend (Friday and Saturday) at their annual Junction City Oktoberfest celebration! This event kicks off on Friday at 4:00 p.m. with the "tapping of the kegs!" After the beer garden opens the party really starts going.
On Friday night attendees will enjoy a variety of polka bands, contests, best-dressed contests, yodeling contests, and good fun throughout the evening! I am super excited to see Tricks of The Light a Fire Show from 7 pm- 10 pm, this will be a street performance!
Saturday morning starts off at 8:15 am with the Volksmarch 5k and 13k! Saturday is packed full of activities, fun, music, and crafts! Junction City Oktoberfest will also host a cornhole tournament that begins at 11 am! Attendees can enjoy a variety of performances that will be held on the main stage, event stage, and more street performances.
If you are looking for some additional options for friendly competition, sign up for a variety of events like best dressed, yodeling, or Hammerschlagen competitions which are being held on Friday and Saturday! For those not familiar with Hammerschlagen, contestants will attempt to hammer a nail in one swing of a hammer. The contestant who drives the nail in the farthest is the winner. Trust me, this is harder than it sounds, but the winner will receive $100.00.
The last competition of the day is at 6:15 pm, Masskrugtragen, is the beer stein-carrying contest. Contestants will carry beer steins 40 yards and whoever carries the most without spilling is the winner and will receive $100.00. Stick around the main stage for the Cowardly Lions who will close out the festival this year, they will play from 7 pm-10 pm.
A variety of vendors will also be on hand for a little shopping throughout the day.
