I am a week late posting this, but better late than never right? One of my favorite events held in Manhattan, KS is "Bids for Bags." It used to be known as the Bag Lady Auction but was rebranded this year as Bids for Bags. The event is a benefit for the Manhattan Emergency Shelter. After a couple of year hiatus, the event is back and better than ever. It has been held in the Utopia Room at St. Thomas More Church in Manhattan, KS.
This event is such a fun night out, I seriously love it. Even if you are not in the market for a new bag, coming for a fun night out and most importantly, to support MESI (Manhattan Emergency Shelter), which makes it all super worth it! The event normally kicks off at 5:30 pm and runs through the evening.
They have a silent auction, live auction, and then a grab-and-go option. The silent auction has tables filled with a variety of bags and throughout the evening the bid sheets are pulled as the various tables "close." On the stage, you will find donated bags that can be purchased immediately as cash and carry.
The drinks and dinner are served by the local Knights of Columbus and the food is always great! This year it was a wonderful Charcuterie board, with additional appetizers and desserts. The bar served a variety of seltzers, spiked punch, and more. The "bartenders" all donate their time as well and any tips go right back to MESI!
The evening ends with the live auction! This is definitely the most fun of the evening as the purses are modeled by staff from the Manhattan Emergency Shelter and the attendees really get into the spirit of the evening. Many times the bags include additional items from local businesses and a little extra fun and value!
Although this year's event has passed, you definitely want to put it on your calendar for next year. Come with a friend, or buy a table and take a group of friends! Most importantly, just come and join in the fun while supporting MESI!
