Located on Poyntz in Downtown Manhattan, KS this is the place where those from the Big Apple and the Little Apple enjoy slices of pie! If you are like my husband, as much as you love the Midwest, you miss New York-style pizza! So, when he is craving a slice of pie, this is where we go! Walking into AJ's Pizzeria you see the menu board that along with traditional pie they also offer salads named for various neighborhoods in New York. Their menu also includes various pasta dishes that are made to order.
When it comes to pizza, I am open to them all. I mean, it's pizza, who doesn't love pizza!?!?! My favorite combo at AJ's is the Murray Hill salad and a slice of their White Pie. The Murray Hill salad is a mix of greens, walnuts, balsamic, and dried cranberries. The perfect balance of sweet, tart, and a little bit of salt!
The White pie is a perfect blend of gooey cheeses and garlicky goodness! It is a win-win for me. When I am looking for a little more spice I have been known to enjoy the jalapeno popper pie as well! I recently tried a slice of the Meatball, I will definitely get it again.
AJ's patio is HUGE and has several large shade trees that provide relief from the summer sun!! You will find people on the patio almost throughout the year. After games, enjoying a quick slice in between shopping, or just stopping for a quick bite, it is always a steady stream of people.
In the summers many people enjoy Paws on the Patio, where our furry family members get to come down and enjoy an evening out. There are also several organizations that use the patio in partnership with AJ's. A local Pilates studio has been known to host Pizza and Pilates every now and then. After all, life is about balance!
The food is not the only thing that will win you over at AJ's. The decor is just as enticing to visitors. The reclaimed wood from an old bowling alley, the subway tiles, street signs instead of order numbers, and the checkered pattern parchment all draws you into the experience. Of course, everyone's favorite is the New York tax cab located inside the restaurant. For New Yorkers, it is a little slice of home. For us, Manhattanites is another way for us to enjoy a little piece of our Big Apple Big Sister!
