In my mind, I was going to do something fun and exciting to end out 2020 but in keeping with the trends. My plans changed!
I think the one thing we ALL can agree on is that 2020 has got to go, and thankfully it is almost time to close this chapter of our lives! Now, don’t get me wrong, I know that at the stroke of midnight all will not be magically better in the world, and there is no fairy godmother coming to magically make it better. However, what the beginning of a new year brings us is the hope of what this upcoming year can be for us. Hope is the gift that we all need right now, after all, Hope Springs Eternal!
In my mind, I was going to kick off 2021 in some unique way and make it memorable. I had big plans, but thanks to a winter snowstorm those plans, like much in 2020 are changing. Here in Manhattan, KS we have the potential for some winter weather to move in tomorrow night, which somehow seems like the only way this year can end. As I watched the news this morning and was listening to the weatherman say it is best to stay home tomorrow night I thought to myself what am I going to do now?
I wondered if others might have had their plans change to so I decided to think of some ideas for an AT HOME NEW YEARS EVE!
After thinking to myself I also wondered if others might be in the same predicament so I thought I would share some of my ideas for myself! I didn’t’ think I wanted to jump on the train for a virtual dinner or party since we have done that so much this year, but I wanted to think of some options. I am also not much of a resolution person, for no other reason than I really can not remember one I have ever kept! I am however a vision board person, which is going to start my list!
1. Create a vision board for yourself!
This does not have to be of any particular size. In fact, my favorite one is on a sheet of 11 x 14 paper. Having that size helps me to focus on those things. Whether the vision board shows your life in one year or a mixture of one, five, and ten having something on my wall that I can look at has been a HUGE factor in my life. All my life as an athlete, I was raised to visualize everything, so this process resonates with me. Plus, for most of us, when was the last time we bought a bunch of magazines and did a little old school cutting and pasting? For me, this also works better than resolutions since I truly believe in what you focus on expands. It is a saying from the real estate training, Ninja selling and it could not be more true!
2. Cook an amazing meal and celebrate yourself!
I love to cook but rarely take time to pull out fancy plates or even really care about the actual “plating” for our meals. On one of my husband’s R&R’s we decided that since it was one of his last nights before he had to head back, we were going to make something we had never done before. My parents came to town to celebrate with us and it is still to this day one of my favorite New Year’s Eve’s! We went all out and bought fresh lobsters from the store and had a completely decadent meal! I will say, cooking it was also a unique experience. Thank goodness my dad was here to take the lead, there was a lot to overcome for this Kansas girl when it came to cooking lobsters!
3. Read A Book.
While this one might seem obvious, I for one am WAY behind on my reading list, and if 2020 goes how I am hoping it will my reading be tough to catch up. My current read is Untamed by Glennon Doyle and it is a strong contender for becoming my New Year’s Eve plans! If you have never read one of her books, I highly recommend it!
4. Do Nothing!
For some, this might seem a little counterproductive but give yourself the permission to DO NOTHING! If you ask anyone who knows me they will tell you that it is incredibly hard for me to really relax. Most nights and weekends I sit with my laptop and cell phone either right next to me or on my lap so that I am connected. So to give myself permission to turn off all my devices and just do nothing would be huge! Now, I can’t just sit around and start at the walls, but just not feel guilty about relaxing and enjoying my evening. I might order dinner or grab some take out, watch a tv, read, practice some self-care, put a puzzle together, but DO NOTHING!
5. Movie Marathon
In my mind, this becomes the adult version of the slumber party from our youths! You get into your most comfy clothes and blankets, order some pizza, pop some popcorn, and have the most epic candy options that your childhood self would be jealous of! I know we Netflix and chill, but when was the last time you had a good old fashion movie marathon? For me, it is has been forever since we have completely relaxed, turned off our phones (see number 4), and just hung out in our basement, and watched movies all night long. The epic candy option is helping this be a strong contender!
While I am not sure what option I am going to end up choosing I was happy to come up with some options for tomorrow evening. Options I feel is something that we haven’t had a lot of this year so it feels good to have a few.
