Little Apple Pilates Company

On my 39th birthday, I wanted to do something fun & different. Looking back, that random ad in my newsfeed for The Little Apple Pilates Company would change my world!

I think for most of us, going to a new gym can be a bit intimidating, at least at this point in my life it definitely was for me. For the majority of my life, I was an athlete, but now I am out of shape, plain and simple. I knew needed to find something and had tried several places in town as well as a couple of personal trainers. While they were great, they were just not what I needed.

Without hesitation, Hilary said, anyone, can do this! My next thought, HA! I will be the judge of that! So I signed up both up for my first Aerial class at Little Apple Pilates Company.

On my 39th birthday, I wanted to do something fun and different for my birthday. At the time, I could not think of what I wanted to do and began searching online for ideas. Randomly, I came across an ad that was advertising an aerial class at The Little Apple Pilates Company here in Manhattan, KS.

Of course, my next thought was, could I do that? In fact, I can still remember messaging Hilary, the owner, and asking the big questions. You know the important ones like fitness level requirements, will I hurt myself, and of course is there a weight limit? Without hesitation, she said anyone, can do this! My next thought, HA, I will be the judge of that, but what is the worst that could happen?

With blind faith and my forever partner in crime humoring me, my bestie Joey and I signed up for an aerial class to celebrate my 39th Birthday. I am pretty sure I told her the same thing I was telling myself, “What’s the worst that could happen?” I have to say, it was so much fun! We spun, flipped, and most importantly we laughed so hard at ourselves. Hilary was great supporting us and encouraging us every step of the way. Little did I know where this one little random ad would take me.

I messaged Hilary at Little Apple Pilates Company, this time about working out on the reformers. Her answer, 100% the same, yes they are for anyone!

As we were leaving I walked past the reformers and wondered, could I do those as well? I definitely don’t meet the body type of a typical yoga/Pilates person. Yes, I know better but we have all been there!! Anyways, a few weeks later I messaged Hilary again, only this time it was about the reformers. Her answer, 100% the same, yes they are for anyone! I scheduled my first class and I was instantly hooked! For months I would go for two sessions every week with Hilary and I felt great! My years of back pain from working in healthcare melted away along with my dependency on regular Chiropractic care!

I surprised myself with how religious I was about attending every session. Rarely did I miss a session, it was on my calendar and that was it, I was going! After several months of working on the reformer and getting to know more of the instructors, I wondered what other classes I could do? Even though I am like most people, I enjoy consistency. I do know that life is lived outside our comfort zone and so far it was really working out for me. The next comfort zone would be pushed by Katie!

Without hesitation, Katie said, “you will be fine!” To which I replied, if I think I am going to pass out, I will just leave….she said that was fine!

Katie teaches several classes at Little Apple Pilates company but, the class I would take on next was Dance Cardio. While this was a laughable choice for me since I had not danced since my middle school dance team! That is a whole different story. Regardless, both Katie and Hilary encouraged me to take Cardio Dance and again I thought, what’s the worst that could happen? Without hesitation, Katie said, “you will be fine!” To which I replied, if I think I am going to pass out, I will just leave….she said that was fine! LOL So we had a deal and again, I signed up.

My first class was a total learning experience, my feet and arms were all over the place. Regardless, I had no idea how much it was what I needed. The lights were low so it made no difference to anyone else that I was totaling screwing up. In fact, after I attended more classes I learned, our mistakes are laughed away and sometimes they are celebrated with each other. What a concept in today’s society, a place where it is 100% ok to make mistakes, and when you do, just laugh, and dance on! As you might have guessed, Dance Cardio has been added to my must do’s and I try to get there at least twice a week when my schedule allows.

When people ask me about Pilates, I echo Hilary and say, “It’s for everyBODY!” If you are looking for a place that has so much more than one defined program then look no further than Little Apple Pilates here in Manhattan, KS. At Little Apple Pilates you can begin or continue your Pilates practice, learn to fly, attend TRX classes, Barre, and various mat classes, or even come to dance your day away.

Everyone is welcomed exactly where and how they are when they enter Little Apple Pilates Company! After all, we are all works in progress no matter what and where we are in our lives.

If you are nervous to go along, DON’T! If you are worried about screwing up, DONT! I still screw up but, at Little Apple Pilates you just dance on! If you are worried that you are not the right, size, shape, fitness level, type of person, or whatever, DON’T! Everyone is welcomed exactly how and where they are! After all, we are all works in progress no matter what and where we are in our lives.

One of my favorite quotes is, “One Day or Day One, you Decide!” Today is your day to decide!
